Description

This unit examines the relationship between terror and globalisation, exploring themes of massacre, ethnic cleansing, and terrorism in the context of social uncertainty and crises in nation states.

The unit also examines the production of victims, the new social and political imaginaries emerging around victimhood, and attempts to escape terror and achieve reconciliation.

A range of sociological approaches to the topic are drawn on, including both theories of experiential description and structural explanation, and assessment will focus on exploration of a case study of the student’s choice.
