    HSC Chinese (Background Speakers), or have completed a major part of their secondary education in Chinese

    CHNS1101 or CHNS1102 or CHNS2601 or CHNS2602


The unit meets the needs of students who have passed HSC Chinese (Background Speakers) or have completed a major part of their secondary education in Chinese.

The unit aims to further improve their language skills and cultural awareness. It teaches advanced Chinese communication skills and sensitises students to differences between Chinese and English languages and discourses.

A range of authentic material will be used, drawn from various media and literary sources, covering topics of contemporary interest.


Research proposal around 200 Chinese characters (5%), 2x 800 character writing assignments (20%), Oral Presentation equivalent to 800 Chinese characters (15%), Mini research project around 2000 Chinese characters (30%), Written class test equivalent to 1,000 Chinese characters (30%).
